You are here: Takeoff > Takeoff Functions > File (Takeoff)

File (Takeoff)

Note: The above File menu example is when a Section is open. If you are in Takeoff without a Section open, the only File choices are Open Section and Exit.

OPEN SECTION   This button or selection from the File menu opens a Section by displaying the “Open Section” window.

Select the Job/Estimate (if different), then the Section. Select Takeoff to continue; Cancel to quit and return to the Takeoff display. The Options function displays the Takeoff Options window box (see Takeoff Options).

Note:  While a Section is open, it cannot be opened again. If you want to display the same Section in two or more different windows, use the New Window command from the Window pull-down menu.

Note:  By right-clicking a column header, a drop-down menu appears that allows you to sort by that column heading.

NEXT SECTION: This Takeoff selection closes the currently open Section (saving its Takeoff entries) and allows you to select another Section. When you select File > Next Section or the Toolbar button, the program saves and closes the open Section, then the “Open Section” window displays for you to select another Section for Takeoff.

For example, you had finished takeoff in the Section 3 and when you selected File > Next Section, the Select Section window box displayed with the next sequential Section highlighted, number 4. You can either use this Section or select another one (by highlighting it). Select Takeoff to return to Takeoff with the selected Section opened. Selecting Cancel returns to Takeoff (no Section is opened). The Options function displays the Takeoff Options window box (see Takeoff Options).

SAVE SECTION:   Immediately saves the active Section.

CLOSE:  This closes the open and selected Estimate/Section takeoff file. If you made changes, the program prompts Save Changes to Estimate #nn, Section #nn? Answer [YES] to save the changes; [NO] to leave the Section unchanged.

IMPORT REQ FILE: This imports requisitions into Takeoff. Once the file is selected, the items will be imported. This allows for remote takeoff with palm devices.

Note: You will have options to select what fields you wish to match the imported items against. Any unmatched items will be added as new specials.

DATAFILEMAINTENANCE:  Displays a menu of data files, which can be accessed directly from Takeoff. You can perform any file maintenance function (see the individual data topics in this manual). When you exit the file, the program returns to Takeoff.

Note: As always, only one operator at a time can use a data file, whether directly or through Takeoff.

ESTIMATEFILE MAINTENANCE:  Displays a menu of Estimate Files, which can be accessed directly from Takeoff. You can perform any file maintenance function (see the individual Estimate topics in this manual). When you exit the file, the program returns to Takeoff.

Note: While multiple users can Takeoff in different sections of the same Estimate, only one user at a time is allowed to access the Estimate File Maintenance sections.

OPTIONS:  When you select File > Options a menu of options displays. These include:

Auto Save:  Allows you to set up the program to automatically save the Takeoff file according to the time increment you set. When you select Auto Save the “Auto Save” window opens.

The default is Auto Save active (selected), every 2 minutes. You can enter whatever time interval you like. To turn Auto Save off, simply select the checkbox, removing the mark. Select OK to save your settings and return to Takeoff; select Cancel to return to Takeoff without saving any changes you may have made.

Picture View:  See Picture View.

Quote Master Options:  Goes to the Summary Options window, where you can choose the Quote Master report and set it up the way you want it run. See "Summary Setup" in the "Summary" topic.

General Preferences: Use to enable your takeoff preferences. See General Preferences.

Takeoff Options:  Goes to the Takeoff Options window box. See Takeoff Options.

Voice Prompts:  Certain prompts, input actions, and status actions in Takeoff are available as vocal prompts or notifications. This means that whenever the program reaches a point where it is prompting for an entry, a response is being made (e.g., Yes or No), or a status has changed (e.g., activating Deduct or changing the Material Factor), a voice will prompt you (as well as the visual prompt) or coincide with your entry. When you select Voice Prompts from the Options menu, the “Voice Prompt Options”window displays. The default is Voice Prompts disabled (Enable Voice Prompts unmarked).

If you choose to enable Voice Prompts, mark Enable Voice Prompts at the top of the window box. Then, mark the status, input, and prompts options that you want active. Select OK to save your settings and return to Takeoff. If you select Cancel any changes you made are not saved; the program returns to Takeoff.

Note: If your computer does not have a sound card, you will not be able to hear the voice prompts.

Configure PowerPad: if enabled, use to define your PowerPad settings.

Status Bar: Use to configure the status bar. See Status Bar.

PRINT This prints the entire Takeoff file for this Section (or just selected items). If you have made changes to this Section's Takeoff, print the file to have a record of the changes. Currently, the two report options for Takeoff are:

Electrical Takeoff Detail: Item #, Category, Description, Takeoff Menu number, Key, Quantity, Material Factor, Labor Factor, and Levels are included in the report.

Electrical Takeoff w/ Prices: The report includes Item #, Category, Description, Quantity, Material Unit, Material Discount, Labor Unit, and Alternate Labor Unit.

PRINT PREVIEW: The Print Preview selection in Takeoff allows you to view the printed Takeoff report on your computer screen or you can save it to a file before actually printing it. If you don't want all items previewed, select only those items to be included first. When you select File > Print Preview the procedures are the same as for printing, except instead of the Print window box displaying, the report is shown in Print Preview.

QUOTE MASTER Quote Master calculates and prints a unit cost report for only those items you select. See the Quote Master topic.

SUMMARY Goes directly to Summary and the Open Summary window box.

EXIT   Exits Takeoff and returns to the Main Menu.
