Note: The Takeoff Edit selections are available in Takeoff File Maintenance only.
Note: Some Edit selections (Edit, Copy, Paste, Add, and Delete) can also be accessed by clicking the right mouse button once on a highlighted item. This displays a menu of these choices.
VIEWS: Displays the Takeoff views menu (Maintenance, Options, Picture, etc.). The Takeoff views are discussed in Takeoff Screen Views.
Note: The Views selection is only available when the Edit menu is accessed by a secondary mouse click in TFM.
EDIT ITEM: This
selection from the Edit Item pull-down menu lets you edit or change the
item information. SeeEditing an Item for
how to edit an item in Takeoff File Maintenance.
EDIT ASSOCIATED… This selection allows you to edit the associated Databook Items and Estimate Specials of supported items. The keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Space will also activate the feature. If a particular item is not supported, the Edit menu selection will display the grayed-out text, “No associated item to edit.” This function can not be used with fabricated items.
Note: If you change the Item’s price/labor through Databook, the Takeoff grid will not be updated until the screen is refreshed by exiting and re-entering the Section.
ADD ITEM: The Add
Takeoff Item command from the Edit
pull-down menu lets you add an item. The Add Takeoff Item command is explained
in Adding An Item.
ADD TAKEOFF NOTE: The Add Takeoff Note selection allows you to add
notes to the Takeoff file. SeeTakeoff Notes.
ADD FILE ATTACHMENT: The File Attachment selection allows you to add
attachments to the Takeoff file.
These attachments can be a text file, Word document, Excel file, etc. See Attachments.
DELETE FABRICATED ITEM: TheEdit
> Delete FabricatedItem
command or Toolbar button allows you to delete an item or items from a
Takeoff file. See Deleting An Item.
UNDO: This command or Toolbar button reverses the last
editing action, if possible. The Undo selection states what editing action
it will undo, such as Undo Paste, Undo Cut, Undo Delete, etc., depending
on the last editing action. After use, the button and menu selection become
inactive until the next editing action or Takeoff entry.
SELECT ALL:
TheEdit
> Select Alloption
or Toolbar button alternately selects and de-selects all items.
CUT: Edit
> Cutremoves
the currently selected item(s) from the file and puts it (them) on the
clipboard. This command is unavailable if there is no data currently selected.

Cutting data to the clipboard replaces the contents previously stored there. The item(s) can then be pasted to another takeoff file (or back into the current takeoff file) or left as deleted.
COPY: Use theEdit
> Copycommand
to copy the currently selected item(s) from the file and puts it (them)
on the clipboard. This command is unavailable if there is no data currently
selected. See Selecting Items in the Estimating
Help.
Note: Copying data to the clipboard replaces the contents previously stored there. The item(s) can then be pasted to another takeoff file.
WARNING: Items that are deleted after being copied will not paste, but instead be lost. Be sure to paste any copied items before deleting them from the Takeoff Maintenance view.
PASTE: Use this command to insert a copy of the
clipboard contents (a result of using the Cut or Copy command) at the insertion
point. This command is unavailable if the clipboard is empty. There
are also several special Paste options, which
can be accessed by a when highlighting the Paste
command.
Append: Will paste at the end of the audit trail.
Insert: Will insert the items before the selected item in the maintenance view.
Replace Selected: Will replace the selected item(s) with the contents of the last copied item. The selected items’ quantity, factors, and levels will be used as the basis for the newly pasted items.
Replace Like Assemblies: Will replace all assemblies that match the selected assembly, using the original’s quantity, factors, and levels as the basis for the newly pasted items.
Note: You will only be able to Append specials into their own takeoff.
FIND: The
Find function will search the file for the entered word, phrase, number,
or any combination thereof in any field. The “Find” window contains standard
Windows search options.
Find: Enter what you want the search to look for.
Match Case (check box): If Match Case is checked, the search will look for exactly what is typed in the Find field. The search is case sensitive, so when you are using this, you must have upper and lower case consistency to find what you are looking for.
Match Entire Column (check box): If you know the exact contents of a column, you can check this box, and enter your search in the Find field. This search also works with Selected Column. When Selected Columns is checked, and a column is selected, the Find field will have a drop-down box that searches in the selected column. However, this only applies is the choice in Selected Columns has choices that are in a drop-down menu.
Search: You can select whether you want to search up or down from your current location.
All Columns or Selected Columns: If you select all columns, the search will take place in all of the columns. If you select Selected Columns, you can select what columns the search will take place in by using the drop-down window.
Find
Next: This will find and select the next
instance of the characters entered in the Find field.
Select
All: This
will find and select all instances of the characters entered in the Find
field.
FIND NEXT: This will find and
select the next instance of the characters entered in the Find field.
FIND
INVALID ITEM: TheEdit
> Find Invalid Itemcommand
is useful when you have a large number of items in the maintenance view,
and you want to quickly locate the next invalid item. Each time you select
this option, it will take you to the next invalid item on your list.
LOOKUP: TheEdit > Lookupfunction allows you to
search the HVAC Databook and the e-Catalogs for items. These items can
be taken off once found. See Using Lookup.
Note: Lookup can also be accessed in single item takeoff by pressing the Size/Lookup key (on the PowerPad) in the Item Number window.
ADD
TO DATABOOK: Allows you
to add invalid items to the Databook right from Takeoff. The new Databook
item will be set to the same subtotals as the first item in the key to
which it is added. Simply select the invalid items that you want to add
to the Databook, and then selectEdit
> Add to Databook.
INSERT ITEM: Allows you to insert an item into an added assembly.
INSERT FABRICATED ITEM: Allows you to insert a fabricated item into an assembly
INSERT TAKEOFF NOTE: Allows you to insert a takeoff note.
INSERT FILE ATTACHMENT: Allows you to insert an attachment
UPDATE LIKE ASSEMBLIES: This option will update all assemblies like the one selected.
Note: This function will only work on new Jobs that were created after version 6.0.
REPLACE WITH SNAPSHOT: Will replace items with a snapshot
Like Assemblies: Will replace every assembly that matches the selected assembly, which is within the section, with the contents of a snapshot.
Selected Item: Will replace selected items with the contents of a snapshots you are prompted for.
Note: If any assemblies in the Estimate were taken off before version 6.0, the Replace Like Assemblies option will be disabled.
DESIGN SPECS ON: Turns Design Specifications on prior to taking
off items; off after takeoff. See Setting
Design Specifications Active Prior To Takeoff for more information.
SET DIMENSIONS: Allows you to set specific Dimensions.
EDIT SIZE KEYS: This option will allow you to edit the key size settings.
UPDATE ASSEMBLY FACTORS: Allows you to re-set any overridden factors that were manually changed on the assembly sub-items. The factors will be reset to what the header item was at takeoff. See Update Assembly Factors for more detail.
EDIT CATEGORY RANKINGS: Allows you to reorganize the order in which the categories are displayed in the list boxes. See Category Rankings for more detail.
