Takeoff Drawing Tools

There are several different takeoff drawing tools, each represented by an icon on the Takeoff sub-tool bar. Different tools will be appropriate for different situations.

For information about "finishing" using a tool, see Takeoff Finishing Tools.

COUNT: the cursor is used to make it easier for you to see when the Count function is active. Use to digitize count items, like fixtures or fittings. Simply click on the appropriate spot on your plans to add the selected count item. See Count.

LINE: this allows you to digitize a straight line. Click the starting point of the line, then move the cursor to the end point of the line and click again. See Line.

90 (DEGREE ANGLE): this allows you to draw a 90-degree angle between two points. Click the starting point of the line, then move the cursor to form the desired right angle, then click again.

SEGMENTED LINE: this allows you to create a line with multiple angles. Click the starting point of the line, then move the cursor to the point of the desired angle line and click again. When done, right-click and choose one of the finishing options. See Segmented Line.

CONTINUOUS LINE: this tool functions like Segmented line, however if you finish the line by switching to takeoff or by pressing a takeoff key, Digital Takeoff automatically starts a new line where the previous line ended. If you do not want to continue the line, right-click and select one of the finishing options. If a new line has been started that you do not want, right-click and select Cancel. See Continuous Line.

CURVED LINE: this allows you to create a line that curves. Click the starting point of the line, then move the cursor to form the desired curve. When done, right-click and choose one of the finishing options. See Curved Line.

FREE-HAND TRACE: this allows you to draw shapes without any aid in forming shapes. To begin, click and hold the left mouse button.  You can now trace out any shape you desire. When done, right-click and choose one of the finishing options. See Free Hand Trace.

SINGLE LINE TAKEOFF: this tool allows you to digitize using Single Line Takeoff. Click at the starting point of a line, then click again on each elbow you come across as you follow the line. Once you have reached a fitting that is not an elbow, or the end of the line, finish the line by right-clicking and selecting one of the finishing options. If you ended the line at a fitting, simply takeoff that fitting; Estimating generates the pipe or duct and elbow items that make up the line. If you do not end the line at a fitting, then takeoff the pipe or duct and Estimating generates the elbows on the line. Use this tool to take off a separate piece of pipe or duct for each segment of the line.

TEXT: this allows you to add text notations to your plans. To use it, click on the spot on your plans where you wish to add text. Type the appropriate text in the Text Properties box and click OK. See Text.
