Creating a New Summary

After completing Takeoff, there are two ways to access Summary:

The Open Summary window displays.

For detailed information about the fields and functions in this display, see Open Summary Window.

The Open Summary window shows the Job/Estimate  that was last active when you were in Takeoff (in the Job/Estimate fields). If this is not the Job on which you want to run Summary, use to display the other Jobs/Estimates available and make another selection.

Select . A Summary setup window displays.

For detailed information about the "pages" and functions in this display, see Summary Setup.

This window contains five sections or "pages" labeled with tabs at the top:

Report Type

Levels

Level Adjustments

Once you have setup your levels preferences, select to start the Summary.

When the Summary calculations are complete, the Edit Summary window displays for you to give the Summary a name and enter any applicable notes.

When the Summary is finished, the Summary File Maintenance (SFM) window displays. Now you can view the details of the Summary.

The Summary file is comprised of three main folders: Summary, Subtotals, and Phases. Each folder contains the Level breakdowns. Subtotals contains material and labor amounts by Subtotal. Phases shows the totals in each Phase. (A fourth folder, Invalid Items, will be shown if the program finds any invalid items.)

See Summary File Maintenance for a detailed explanation of the Summary file.

To exit Summary, select File > Exit.

If you return to the Open Summary window (by selecting File > Open), you will see two Summary files. The Summary Report is the Summary based on your settings with level breakdowns. The Combined All - Estimate File Pricing Summary includes only Summary, Subtotals, and Phases (no level breakdowns). A Combined All Summary is automatically generated the first time you run a Summary.
New Summary reports are placed at the next open sequence number.
If a Summary name appears in red in the Open Summary window, that Summary is locked. This means that Summary is already open (in multi-user/network systems, it's usually another user who is working with that Summary and you will not be able to select it).
