The User Groups options are accessed by selecting File > Maintenance > User Group.
The User Groups options page provides security by allowing you to set up types of users and control their access rights. User Groups are assigned to users in the Users options (see Users) to control what parts of Estimation to which a user has access and editing capabilities.
Note: Only a user set up as a Supervisor can make changes to the User Groups. The User Groups tab will not even appear in Options for users with a User Group of something other than Supervisor.
The left side of the User Groups page shows the group descriptions. The descriptions delivered with Estimation are: Estimator, Manager, User, New User, and Supervisor. The Supervisor is the highest level, with access to all features and functionality. The New User level generally has the least amount of access.
On the right-hand side of the User Groups page are the various plug-ins for Estimation (e.g., Databook, Job Management, etc.), each with a list of functions and an Allowed check box. Only the functions that are checked are available to a user set up with the User Group''s permissions.
Note: The Supervisor group always has functions set as Allowed. Nothing can be disabled for Supervisor.
When a user set up with “User” restrictions and accesses the Databook, editing functions will not be available. In fact, any Toolbar buttons or menu selections involved in editing will not even display in Databook.
The Add, Edit, and Delete functions are used to maintain User Groups.
Add: When you use this function, a window displays where you can enter the new User Group description. Once a description is added, all of the checkboxes on the Function side of the page are cleared. You can then go through and set the applicable allowed functions for this new User Group.
Edit: You can enter a new name or modify the name of the selected (highlighted) User Group.
Delete: Deletes the currently selected User Group description. A window will display prompting you to confirm the deletion.
Toggle All: Selects/unselects all available plug-ins to accelerate setup.
Note: Once security groups are set, only a user with Supervisor rights will be able to set up and change users. The User Groups and Users tabs will not even appear in Options for users set up as something other than Supervisor.
