The Tax Profile details are each individual tax that
is applied under a given profile. Taxes are applied in the order that
they appear in this detailed list, so keep this in mind as you build a
tax profile. Use
and
functions to place the taxes in their proper order.
1. Select the Tax Profile name for which you want to build details.
2. Select Add in the Tax Profile detail (bottom) window. The New Tax window displays.
3. Complete all of the fields.
AUTHORITY: The Tax
Authority who collects this tax. Use
to display a drop-down menu of the Tax Authorities. Now you understand
why your Tax Authorities should be set up first (see Creating
Tax Authorities).
TAX NAME: A description for the tax (e.g., Sales Tax, Freight Tax).
TAXRATE: The appropriate percentage.
SURTAX: Mark this option if the tax is a surtax, meaning it is applied to a subtotal, after other taxes are already applied. For example, you have an invoice for $100 in materials and added to that is a sales tax of 5 percent, yielding a subtotal of $105. A surtax of 1 percent is then added to the subtotal, resulting in a total bill of $106.05. If the 1 percent had not been a surtax, it would have been calculated using the original $100 total, which would have resulted in a total bill of $106.00.
TAXABLE: Mark to what types of products this tax applies: Material, Labor, or Freight.
When
you have more than one tax set up, these buttons are used to toggle through
each of the taxes, one at a time for your review.
4. Select OK to add the new tax. If you select Cancel the new tax is not created.
Note: Once a tax has been created, it can be edited from the grid. A Tax Authority can be selected. The Taxable boxes can be checked and unchecked, and descriptions can be edited. Editing in the grid is described in Focus/Editing in the Grid.
