Takeoff Options Tabs: Options

The Options tab allows you to set many of the default settings for an item. The more information that you have here, the less information you will have to provide for each item when taking an item off, given the item matches whatever defaults are set.

MANAGE LEVELS BY:  This menu allows you to choose how your levels are displayed in the window below.

The drop-down list under Manage Levels By can be used to select a Level Type to use when managing options (instead of a Section). If the Level Type is blank, the active Section options are used. So, when making changes to Level Type options, your changes will only apply to sections that have not yet been entered in takeoff. If Section options are not defined, the Job/Estimate defaults are used when entering Takeoff.

RETAIN ACTIVE LEVELS BETWEEN SECTIONS:  This option, when checked, will cause your active Levels to remain active when switching to another Section.

DETAILED EQUIPMENT: When marked, the Detailed Equipment option allows you to map categories other than the Equipment category to the Equipment key in Takeoff. The Equipment Category field becomes inactive when the Detailed Equipment option is marked. When you select a window displays where you can map the Equipment keys to other categories (e.g., A = Fan Coil Units, B = RTUs, etc.). So in Takeoff, when you select the Equipment menu key, the categories you map here will display for the equipment keys.

When you are finished making changes, select OK. If you do not want the changes that were made to be saved, select CANCEL.

SCALE: The program uses the scale setting to translate entries made using the Distance Wheel on the Probe or using the Stylus with the Digitizer. A numeric entry can be made using either the PowerPad or the Probe. The program takes any entry by the Count button as a numeric (or "literal") entry, but an entry by the Distance Wheel is assumed to be a scale entry.

If you are not going to use a digitizer or the Probe's Distance Wheel, you don't have to set a scale.

The scale may be reset at any time during Takeoff. Use the Scale function key to display the Scale menu.  To change the scale, select ZNSIZE.BMP to display the Scale menu.  Enter what the scale would be from his blueprints, e.g. ¼” = 10’ or 25mm = 1m.

Custom If the plans do not follow a printed scale (the blueprints were shrunk or enlarged; for example), you can choose to measure off a length from the prints. That length will be entered in the left-hand side of the scale window
