Editing Formulas

There are four different kinds of elements that can be part of a formula: dimensions, operations, literal values, and combined formulas. These elements are selected while building a formula in the Edit Formula.

To add or edit a Formula, highlight its line first. Then, there are several ways to access the editing display:

The “Edit Formula” window displays.

The Dimension, Value, and Formula radio buttons are used to enter a formula.

Notes:

  • The program will always place combined formulas at the end of a formula. So, any operations, dimensions, or values you select after selecting a combined formula, they will be placed BEFORE the combined formula in the formula you are building.

  • Only two combined formulas can be entered into a single formula.

As you select dimensions, operations, etc. notice that the formula is being "built" in the Formula field (below Description).

Select . The program checks the formula for combined formulas, that have been used that reference the current formula, which would result in a "loop." If the formula passes the test, “The formula test passed” displays. Select OK to return to the Edit Formula display). If the test fails “The formula contains a circular combination” displays. You must correct the error before you will be allowed to select OK in the “Edit Formula” display.

When are finished working with this formula, select OK to save your changes. If you do not want the changes that were made to be saved, select CANCEL.
