Updating a Summary

A Summary is updated using the function in the Open Summary window.

The Update function is used when a Takeoff file has changed (items added, quantities changed, etc.) and/or when Estimate Pricing File has changed. A changed Takeoff file is indicated with the icon under the TO column in Open Summary. Similarly, a changed Estimate Pricing File is indicated with the icon under the $ column. You must re-run Summary to ensure it contains all of the information in the updated Takeoff file and Estimate Pricing File.

The Update function finds all Takeoff changes that match the breakout you defined for the Summary. For example, the Summary was previously run including a breakout of Drawings 1, 2, and 3. Then, Takeoff was modified to include Drawings 4 and 5, with changes to Drawing 3. When Update is run, the program will update only those items in Summary for Drawing 3. Drawings 4 and 5 were not included in the Summary breakout, so the additional Takeoff entries in those Drawings do not affect the Summary.

If you want the Summary to include additional Drawings, you must either modify the properties of the summary (see "Properties" in the "Open Summary Editing Functions" section) or create a new Summary and select all of the appropriate levels, sub-levels, and descriptions within those levels. See Creating a New Summary.  If you modify a Summary's properties, the changed Properties are indicated with the icon under the Properties column.

1.         To update a Summary, simply highlight it in the “Open Summary” window.

2.         Select .

3.         The program performs the update. When finished, the Open Summary window is revised with new status information for the Summary.

The TO and $ icons have been restored to and , indicating that Takeoff and the Estimate Pricing File are current for this Summary. Also, the Date has been updated.

Note: The Combined Summary has not been updated. The only time a Combined Summary is generated is with the very first Summary you run. You will have to perform the Update procedure on it separately.

The program also allows you to select more than one Summary and update them all at once.

If you wish to update multiple Summaries, select them and click .

Note:  You can also undo updates made to Summaries.  To do so highlight the updated Summaries you wish to convert back, right-click, and select the Undo Update option.
