Adding Manufacturers

As mentioned above, when you first receive the Estimation and the Databook plug-in, the Manufacturers file will be empty. You must build it from scratch, adding your manufacturers using the New command.

Note: If you have the Materials Management plug-in, you can use its Import function to import manufacturer short names, names, and DCI codes from Merlin (see the Materials Management plug-in reference).

Whether you are starting with a blank Manufacturers file or with a file that contains records, the procedure is the same. There are a number of ways to go about adding a Manufacturer:

Note: If the Manufacturers file is empty, the editing menu cannot be accessed with a secondary mouse click on the grid. The only time that can be used is when at least one record exists.

No matter which of the above methods you use, the program will then create a new, blank manufacturer record and then access the new record.

Now, you can fill in each field to finish creating the new manufacturer.

MANUFACTURER NAME: The full name of the manufacturer. It can include up to 80 characters.

SHORT NAME: An abbreviation for the manufacturer name; limited to 20 characters.

DCI: Distribution Codes, Inc. code, unique to each manufacturer.

RANK: Assign a hierarchical number to indicate with which manufacturers you prefer to deal.

The General, Contacts, and Locations "pages" are discussed generically (for they occur in other areas of the program and in other plug-ins, e.g., in Tax Profiles) in Common.

PS-OK2.BMP  When you select OK the new manufacturer is added to the file and is placed at the appropriate place according to the current sort order.

PS-CANC1.BMP  The new record is not added.
