Scale

Note: If you are not going to use a digitizer or the Probe's Distance Wheel, you don't have to set a scale.

The program uses the scale setting to translate entries made using the Distance Wheel on the Probe or using the Stylus with the Digitizer. A numeric entry can be made using either the PowerPad or the Probe. The program takes any entry by the Count button as a numeric (or "literal") entry, but an entry by the Distance Wheel is assumed to be a scale entry.

The scale may be reset at any time during Takeoff. Use the Scale function key to display the Scale menu.

The default Scale is Standard Arch. 1/8. To change the scale, select  to display the Scale menu.

The Scale menu consists of the following selections:

Standard Arch.: Enter a numerator then [Tab] to the denominator field and enter a denominator (e.g., 1/4). [If you do not enter a numerator and denominator, the program is set up to default to 1/8" = 1'.

Engineering: The program prompts you to Enter # of feet to 1''. Type the correct number, then select Enter or OK. If you do not enter a number of feet, the program defaults to 50' = 1".

Metric: The program prompts Millimeters per millimeter 1:. Complete the scale ratio by entering the correct number in the input field. Then you must select a unit of result (Output UOM or unit of measure), depending on which measurement you want the result to be in (meters, millimeters, or feet).

Measure: This lets you measure a distance and enter the appropriate scale. Use it for plans not drawn to scale or plans that have been reduced in size. When you select this the program prompts Measured distance. Measure a distance with the Probe, [Tab] to the next prompt of Actual distance. Enter the amount represented by the distance you measured. The program calculates the factor and the Takeoff screen will display Measured scale factor n.nnnnnn.

Other: This selection can be used to set a unique scale. When you select this option the program prompts you to enter a Scale Factor. Enter the factor you want to use.
